Budget listings advertise the second using language that sounds like the first, and both are genuinely useful — they are simply not the same product.

For calls, the microphone version is the one that matters anyway. Anyone taking calls walking down a street or in a busy house benefits far more from being heard clearly than from silence in their own ears, and this is where inexpensive earbuds genuinely deliver.

Earbuds are close to universally welcome and easy to lose, which makes the low price a feature rather than a compromise. A pair that vanishes in a gym bag is an annoyance at this price and a disaster at ten times it.
