Most owners never use it, which is fine — it is bought for the look of a busier dial, and there is no dishonesty in that as long as you know.

A visible date is a genuinely practical feature people underrate. It is the one complication on a watch that gets read constantly, and the reason a plain two-hand dial frustrates some people within a week.
